Summary

CHS is hiring for a part time Greenhouse Assistant to oversee and maintain the safe operation of the CHS Product Development Greenhouse, maintain the environment to grow plants successfully and record and communicate research results.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance and work safely with laboratory/greenhouse health and safety guidelines, including oneself as well as others at the greenhouse.
  • Safely work alone, work safely around hazardous materials, and identify potential hazards and update safety guidelines as needed.
  • Monitor plant growth and respond to issues arising with care of the plants, including being knowledgeable about the plant’s growth stages, diseases and herbicide symptomology,
  • Maintain records of growth parameters and product performance results
  • Apply chemical pesticides, adjuvants, nutrients, seed treatments and other materials as needed to conduct research.
  • Plant, water, record, and harvest plants
  • Monitor greenhouse and respond to issues arising with the operation of the greenhouse, including correct lighting, humidity, and temperature.
  • Manage greenhouse inventory and ordering/shipping needs. 
  • Maintain greenhouse cleanliness.
  • Sterilize equipment and store materials in secure places
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 1+ years of experience in agricultural/horticultural research and development

Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Agronomy, Horticulture, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Physics, Physical Science or related field preferred
  • Greenhouse work experience desired
  • Familiarity with common equipment used in a greenhouse
  • Full knowledge of hazardous material disposal laws
  • Able to interpret and understand labels, safety data sheets (SDS) and seed treater manuals
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail needed
  • Ability to utilize office tools (phone, fax, computer) Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong Excel and good computer skills needed
  • Desire to learn, adjust and find solutions to problems
  • Mechanical aptitude is desired
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently

Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications.
