About this Position:

The Cost Expert provides AHM Development and Manufacturing Divisions support in executing sourcing and cost strategies and is directly responsible to review and to approve all new model and mass production RFQs, maker selections, annual cost reductions, supplier cost requests, and new supplier proposals for designated commodities with assigned buyers across a range of manufacturing disciplines. In addition, the Cost Expert provides Procurement team leadership and mentoring, contributes to determining priorities with the development teams, and aids in resolving critical supplier issues.

Responsibilities include:

  • Judge the rationality and accuracy of piece and investment costs for a range of commodities through the review and approval of a high-volume of quotations and estimations that multiple buyers submit, which contribute to setting the production costs and profitability of global ATV & SxS new models and mass production vehicles.
  • Create supplier / part / commodity strategies through working collaboratively with buyers to develop actionable plans for realizing cost reduction, mitigation, and avoidance. Ensure multiple buyers implement the Cost Planning Group strategies into actionable plans at a high success rate to minimize deviations from the business targets.
  • Approve the proposals for maker layout selections from multiple buyers by considering numerous factors including quality, cost, delivery, development, and management on a high volume of parts that result in determining which supplier will provide components for mass production.
  • Monitor product design changes with multiple buyers across several model developments to identify factors and decisions that could result in not achieving development cost targets. Support buyers with supplier negotiations, spec refinement discussions, and sourcing decisions to deliver competitive costs.
  • Summarize complex cost roll-ups, conditions, and variables with input from buyers into comprehensible reports with a high level of detail for management and project teams to understand and make decisions that contribute to setting the production costs of the models.
  • Instruct buyers on how and when to create exclusive tools and proprietary cost tables within area of responsibility that improve the accuracy and capabilities of estimating the piece and investment costs for various commodities.
  • Lead recovery activity of distressed supplier situations to support sustainable production.

Minimum Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or closely related field or equivalency in procurement tenure and experience

Minimum Experience:

  • 10+ years procurement experience is necessary, preferably in Powersports or Automotive field. Strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills are required.

Other job-specific skills:    

  • Basic computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Suite to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.  Familiarity with Ariba, SAP or major ERP system(s), with catalog administration knowledge.
  • Must be able to operate with high level of confidentiality
  • General knowledge of cost, budget and/or financial information management
  • Strong analytical skills (logical thought process, reasonability, timeliness)
  • Time management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills (logical thought process, reasonability, timeliness)
  • Effective negotiation skills and the ability to summarize key issues for management review
  • Knowledge of SxS and ATV market desired   

Additional Position Factors:

  • Travel: Average of 1-3 times monthly. Amount varies based on project demands/responsibilities, conferences, etc.; includes possible overseas travel.                                                                                                                         
  • Physical: Primarily works at a desk or scope; frequent keyboarding.  Limited kneeling, standing, squatting, reaching or bending.                                                                                                                         
  • Hazards: Risks found in a typical office & shop setting. May be exposed to explosives/flammables, pressurized equipment, toxic chemicals and moving parts.                                                                                                                        
  • Overtime: Overtime expected based on project demands/responsibilities.                                                                             
  • Maintains professional conduct and follows all departmental, safety DEPARTMENT, and COMPANY policies, Procedures, AND rules.
