Optum Orthopedics has an immediate opening for a friendly, patient focused and detailed oriented Patient Care/Surgical Coordinator to join our team. The Surgical Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that all surgical procedures are scheduled and coordinated effectively. They will work closely with surgeons, surgical staff, and patients to ensure that all aspects of surgical care are coordinated properly, including pre-operative planning, surgery, and post-operative care.

Working Hours: This is a 40-hour work week, the schedule to be determined by the hiring manager upon hire. Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

Location: 201 ROUTE 17 NORTH, Suite 1202, RUTHERFORD, NJ 07070 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and schedule all surgical procedures
  • Ensure that all necessary pre-operative testing and evaluations are completed
  • Coordinate and communicate with surgical teams, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical staff
  • Manage pre-operative patient education and preparation, including pre-operative instructions and medication management
  • Communicate with patients and families about their surgical procedures and post-operative care, including follow-up appointments and rehabilitation
  • Ensure that all necessary documentation and medical records are completed and filed accurately
  • Collaborate with insurance companies and healthcare providers to ensure that all necessary authorizations and payments are completed on time
  • Adhere to the standards identified via Sparq regarding Optum Employee Policies
  • Work cohesively with fellow employees to achieve specific team goals
  • Keep abreast on current medical requirements relevant to their position, which includes maintaining patient confidentiality and abiding by all HIPAA and OSHA requirements
  • Assure the continuity of care through scheduling and tracking systems
  • Participate in orientation (scheduling segment) of new field employees and distribute updates and changes as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned (front end responsibilities not limited to check in\out and insurance verification)

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • 2+ years of experience in surgical coordination (scheduling)
  • 2+ years of experience with knowledge of medical terminology, surgical procedures, and healthcare laws and regulations
  • 1+ years of experience working in a medical office position performing duties such as scheduling appointments, checking patients in/out, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and maintaining medical records
  • Intermediate level of computer proficiency (multi-tasking through multiple applications including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word) and data management systems
  • Bilingual Spanish and English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of EMR software

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with health care providers 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills 
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet all deadlines

The salary range for this role is $16.88 to $33.22 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
