The Primary Care Medicine Clinic at Barnes-Jewish Hospital provides comprehensive outpatient medical care, including diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. Staffed by Washington University School of Medicine faculty and resident physicians, the clinic serves a diverse patient population, including uninsured and underinsured individuals. Patients can access primary care services without referrals, while most specialty care requires one. The clinic operates Monday through Friday and is part of Barnes-Jewish Hospital, a top-ranked teaching hospital affiliated with BJC HealthCare.Â

Nurses at the Primary Care Medicine Clinic play a vital role in patient care. Their responsibilities include conducting initial patient assessments, taking medical histories, checking vital signs, administering medications and vaccinations, and assisting physicians during examinations and procedures. They also provide patient education on disease management, medications, and lifestyle changes. Additionally, nurses coordinate care by scheduling follow-ups, managing patient records, and communicating with other healthcare providers. They may also assist with minor procedures and respond to patient concerns, ensuring high-quality, compassionate care in this outpatient setting.Â- Â

The Department of Ambulatory Services at Barnes-Jewish Hospital consists of the multidisciplinary staff of BJH Ambulatory Services including responsibility for the GI Labs, Minor Procedure Center, Pain Management Center, Diabetes Center, Resident Clinics, Wound/Ostomy Center and other services as assigned. This department assures that all customers receive the highest level of attention and prompt, courteous service.
