What part would you play in this role?
As a HIM Tech you will be responsible for identifying, organizing, and indexing pertinent high-volume electronic records (e.g. military records, diagnostic test results, physician’s notes, etc.) by medical specialty and/or contentions using required technology. This position reviews large workloads of confidential electronic files for the presence of required documents and escalates incomplete/incorrect records in accordance with policies and procedures.
In this rewarding role, you will:
- Read, examine, analyze, and identify all electronic civilian, industrial, and military documentation relative
to occupational, medical, and/or psychological conditions listed by claimants; utilize PDF software to sort
and tab records in the appropriate order for the physicians to review for exams - Assess listed medical or psychological conditions, including all related conditions or triggers, and
electronically index each according to their medical specialty as appropriate - Be accountable for the quality, timeliness, and thorough review of electronic files; consistently meet the
productivity and quality expectations for the position - Prioritize workloads to ensure expedited cases are processed within defined timelines
- Responsible for retrieving, organizing, and saving electronic updates and directives related to workflow
processes; identify, resolve, or escalate workflow issues to appropriate team members for prompt and
effective resolution - Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
You must have:
- High School diploma, or equivalent (GED); AA/AS preferred
- Typically, 6 months - 1 year experience of medical records experience, preferably in healthcare records environment
- Moderate medical terminology knowledge is required.
- Must reside within commutable distance to our corporate office in San Antonio, TX.
- Must be able to successfully pass National Agency Check with inquiries (NACI) background investigation.
Competencies:Â
- Ability to focus on high volume workloads with heavy attention to detail
- Working knowledge and understanding of medical terminology, medical conditions, and body systems
- Familiarity with medical documents, such as, but not limited to diagnostic forms, treatment records,
progress notes, and medical evaluations - Knowledge and understanding of EMR and HIPAA
- Ability to focus on complex medical files
- Ability to be self-disciplined to work independently, as well as, in a team environment
- Ability to be self-motivated to achieve productivity and quality objectives
- Ability to maintain medical records confidentiality at all times through proper use of computer passwords,
maintenance of secured files, and adherence to HIPAA policies - Ability to adjust to constant changing environment
- Strong computer skills Adobe, (Microsoft Office) and specific familiarity with the Windows XP operating system,
Internet Explorer Browser, and PDF document creation software - Knowledge and familiarity with military terminology and documents a plus
Typical Day
- Training is remote with a mentor/auditor up to 120 days. (7am – 3:30pm)
- Regular schedule: Start time of 7am- 330pm – 8:00- 4:30pm with Saturday Voluntary Overtime (must be out of training to qualify for overtime)
- This is a remote position; however, candidates must reside within commutable distance to San Antonio, TX
 Pay and Benefits:
- Starting hourly range is $17.67 - $19.53hr + up to a 6% quarterly bonus.
- Eligible up to 5% annual merit increase.Â
