Job Summary
Sets up and operates metal fabricating machines to cut, bend, straighten, drill, bevel, and form metal plates, sheets and structural shapes as specified by blueprints, layout and templates. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.
Qualifications Standards
Previous experience or training required. Ability to work with a variety of fabrication machinery, hand tools and measuring devices required. Ability to interpret blueprints, work from layout or templates, follow written or verbal instruction (in English), manipulate tools and machine controls and lift metal stock required. Must be available to work any shift. Must have good math skills. Must be able to hear warning signals, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings.
Essential Job Tasks
- Select, position and clamp dies, blades, cutters and fixtures into machine.
- Position and clamp stops, guides and timetables.
- Set pressure and depth of ram stroke, adjustment rolls and speed of machine.
- Locate and mark bending or cutting lines and reference points onto work piece.
- Position workplace manually or by hoist against stops and guides or align layout marks with dies or cutting blades.
- Reposition work piece and change dies, as needed, for multiple or successive passes.
- Inspects work to insure proper tolerances.
- Other jobs duties as may be assigned relevant to the trade.
Materials, Tools, Equipment, Work Aids
Works on metal stock using a variety of fabrication equipment such as brakes, shears, rolls, saws and presses and hand tools. May use hand torch or fumace. Uses blueprints, layouts, and templates, rule, square, shims gauges, threaders, punches and angle shears. Personal protective equipment required.
Physical/Mental Involvement
Repetitive or prolonged bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing, manual dexterity, reaching, seeing, hearing, reclining and finger dexterity. Routine lifting between 50 and 75 lbs. and working in physically awkward and demanding positions. Hearing warning signals and reading and comprehending safety instructions. Must be able to maintain general safety awareness and avoid hazards commonly present in employees work area.
Marginal Job Tasks
General housekeeping required in work areas. May be required to attend safety, quality and/or process improvement meetings.
Environmental Factors
Exposure to fumes, odors, dust, gases, various climates and temperatures, and low ventilation conditions, all of which can cause discomfort and/or respiratory difficulties. Exposure to constantly moving machines and mechanical parts and high levels of constant noise.
PAYSCALE
$31.47 - $34.82
This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the hourly range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
