SUMMARY
Analyze, estimate, plan and manage routine facilities projects with support from senior facility engineers. Will coordinate with various internal and external customers to meet project goals. May direct one or more routine projects at a time. Responsible for safety, quality, cost and schedule of each project being managed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Carries out facilities engineering assignments in a timely and professional manner with emphasis on:
- Frequent use of technical standards, principles and theories
- Provide solutions to routine projects
- Work closely with departments senior staff on their projects.
- Develop and collect information necessary to evaluate existing facilities and associated systems.
- Works with internal customers to develop routine scope of work
- Prepare information suitable to obtain supplier quotations and review this with department senior staff for completeness
- Prepare project approval packages for senior management approval
- Writes requisitions and reports to senior staff on the procurement status
- Prepares project completion checklists and assure procurement meets the objective
- Participates in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs
- Performs other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or similar) and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a Facilities Engineering environment. Must have good communicative skills - both written and verbal.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work occurs in both an outdoor shipyard environment and in an office setting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Position requires the ability to distinguish color.Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing. Requires ability to commute physically to various areas of the shipyard including but not limited to shipboard activities. Work at heights, position requires the ability to walk on scaffolding and work at heights aboard vessels under construction or repair. Must be capable of ascending/descending stairs or ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and transiting through manholes and other confined, congested spaces. Carry, lift, push or pull; position requires employees to carry, raise, lower, push or pull objects up to 15 lbs. Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Must remain alert and comply with all safety requirements. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed occasionally to dust, fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 50% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. The noise level is relatively low to moderate in office environments. The noise level in the outdoor shipyard production environment is moderate to noisy 70% of time which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.
WORKING RELATIONS |
Reports to the Manager of Facilities Engineering or delegate. Liaison closely with Maintenance, Supply Chain, Safety, Planning, Rigging, Engineering, Subcontractors, Vendors and other NASSCO departments as appropriate. |
ACCOUNTABILITY
Accountable for the safety, quality and timeliness of each procurement. Stay within established budgets and schedule to the goals and objectives set by management.
PAYSCALE:
Associate $74,000 - $95,800
Engineer I $80,800 - $108,900
Engineer II $112,000 - $145,000
Senior $126,000 - $165,200
This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
