The Northrop Grumman Military Internship Program (NG-MIP) is an approved SkillBridge Program under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29 .The NG-MIP program is an opportunity for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through an individual internship during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. The Northrop Grumman Military internship Program is open to all ranks and experience levels. SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from Northrop Grumman, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members.Â

Responsibilities for this internship position are:
Northrop Grumman Corporation (NGC) has developed the Northrop Grumman – Military Internship Program (DoD SkillBridge) utilizing the DoDI guidance for SkillBridge. During this program the service member will be on-site at his or her host company performing an individual internship in an entry to mid-level career type role. The service member will be on the job training supporting a work schedule equivalent to 40hrs per week. Outlined below are the Goals, Objectives, and Outcomes for the program.Â
Goals– Provide transitioning service members fellowship-style job skills training during the last portion(s) of their military commitment. This program is specifically designed to offer internships that result in the potential to transition to a full-time opportunity as the conclusion of the training. Interns will serve as a pipeline for high-speed, motivated military candidates into NGC.
Objectives - Service Members who complete the Intern program will be highly-trained, capable, future employees that align to the specific needs of the organization and are prepared to meet the NG mission “Defining Possible” on Day 1. This program provides a comprehensive internship experience including professional development, networking with leadership, and training specifically focused on NG leadership principles, company history, customer/stakeholder engagement, product and service overview, and core job responsibilities.
Outcome – Offer transitioning service member a rewarding opportunity to join the Northrop Grumman team.
DoD SkillBridge Eligibility:Â
- Has served at least 180 days on active duty
- Is within 12 months of separation or retirement
- Will receive an honorable discharge
- Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS
- Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
- Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship.

What You’ll get to Do:
Have an opportunity to travel to sustained operational locations overseas and develop your technical expertise across the engineering spectrum. Be part of our field engineering team that operates and maintains complex tactical communication systems worldwide. This is an exciting and dynamic opportunity for Linux and Network Engineers to stay current with their certifications while expanding their skills outside traditional roles to include Linux, voice services, cyber security and a variety of military data links. You'll also get to:
- Support operations and maintenance of a complex airborne and terrestrial tactical communication system providing voice and data services in real world operations.
- Be primarily responsible ISSO duties -Â manage, maintain, troubleshoot and administer the airborne and terrestrial networking and Linux components of a communication system.
- Administer equipment and environments which include Linux servers/clients, network attached storage devices, virtual machines, routers, switches, firewalls, and taclanes.
- Other fundamental duties include basic Linux system administration, account management, data collection, syslog review and maintaining the systems cyber security posture.
- Tertiary duties include maintaining and troubleshooting voice services including Asterisk call managers and Cisco Unified Border Element (CUBE).
- Use engineering drawings for troubleshooting and use standard desktop computer and Windows based tools to produce or edit documents including drawings, plans, procedures and reports.
- Assist and develop proficiency with performance of other engineering and operational duties as required in support of the 24/7 deployed operational network.
- Work closely with an Active Duty/Government customer as well as internal Northrop Grumman Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
- Prepare to learn and excel on a small multidisciplinary team responsible for troubleshooting a wide array of military voice and data services.
- Relay and receive information efficiently, work extended hours to meet deadlines, maneuver around equipment in test labs and aircraft
Extended travel up to 75% to hazardous overseas duty locations ​and support CONUS and OCONUS program exercises as required
Basic Qualifications for a Network Field Engineer Level 2:
- Bachelor's Degree and 2 years' experience. An additional 4 years of experience in repair, configuration, troubleshooting and operations of network devices and computer systems may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience administering Linux and Cisco client/server systems, managing IP based networks, and ability to solve difficult technical problems focused on the delivery of voice and data services over wireless IP networks
- DOD 8570 IAT Level II or greater certification (Security+ and CCNA or CCNP)
- Must pass a physical health assessment and meet the minimal standards of fitness in alignment with AFCENT requirements
- Must be willing and able to travel up to 75% (some travel to hazardous deployment areas) and multi-month overseas deployments
- Active Secret security (or above) clearance with the investigation completed within the last 4 years
Preferred Qualifications:
- Combination of in-depth Cisco based IP networks, system administration experience with Linux, VMware and Windows 2008 Server and Windows 7 Professional
- Completed Linux Certification
- General experience with; general computing and a working knowledge of military COMSEC, MIDS, SADL and communications radio hardware
- Experience working on and around aircraft and understanding of airborne equipment installation operation, maintenance and testing procedures and processes is highly desirable
- Working knowledge of EIGRP, BGP, 802.1Q, 802.1X, DMVPN, NTP, SNTP and VLANs
- Experience with High Assurance IP Encryptor’s (HAIPEs), KG-210’s, KG-175’s, Red Hat Linux

Salary Range 2: $80,600 - $121,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
