Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Systems Engineer and/or Senior Principal Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals located in San Diego, CA.

As a member of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology & Innovation development team, you will define, develop, implement, and transition new technology solutions to increase efficiency, reduce cost, and improve quality.  This role can support multiple phases of the product lifecycle including business capture to development, manufacturing, deployment, and sustainment.  The Systems Engineer provides one of several disciplines on a multi-skillset team to support a Northrop Grumman developed secure communications solution.  This role requires a background and skillset meeting at least one of the system environments within this requisition.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Creating, maintaining and updating system documentation.

  • Install, configure, back up, retrieve, maintain, and migrate system programs and data.

  • Will work under the supervision of senior systems engineers, admins, and architects.

  • Monitor systems, validate the integrity and accessibility of all server resources, hardware, systems, and key processes.

  • Carry out hardware upgrades, performance tuning, and resource optimization whenever required.

  • Provides technical recommendations and input in subject matter area to team members and technical leadership.

  • Reporting status to Program Managers and IPT Management.

  • Good planning, coordination, and documentation skills are required.

  • Experience working within an Agile environment.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Systems Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science degree with 5 years of experience OR Master of Science degree with 3 years of experience.

  • Working knowledge of at least one system engineering environment (Linux, Windows, or VMware).

  • Understand TCP/IP, LDAP, NTP, DNS, and DHCP, among others.

  • Able to obtain IAT Level II certification such as Security+ within 90 days

  • U.S. citizenship with an active Secret clearance

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access

  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal Systems Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science degree with 9 years of experience OR Master of Science degree with 7 years of experience.

  • Working knowledge of at least one system engineering environment (Linux, Windows, or VMware).

  • Understand TCP/IP, LDAP, NTP, DNS, and DHCP, among others.

  • Able to obtain IAT Level II certification such as Security+ within 90 days

  • U.S. citizenship with an active Secret clearance

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access

  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

Basic Qualifications for a Linux Systems Engineer :

  • Experience in install of new Linux OS releases, configure, upgrade, patch, and secure servers.

  • Install, upgrade, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux based system hardware.

  • Development experience using a Linux OS including BIOS, bootstrap, firmware, and drivers for a Linux hardware appliance.

  • Familiarity with additional Linux based distributions.

  • Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) preferred.

Basic Qualifications for a VMware Systems Engineer:

  • Experience migrating and creating virtual and cloud-based versions of hardware-based appliances and applications with Linux and VMware virtualization.

  • Installation, configuration, and use of vSphere vMotion.

  • Installation, configuration, and use of vCenter and related tools.

  • VMware Certified Professional preferred.

Basic Qualifications for a Windows Systems Engineer:

  • Experience in install of new Windows OS releases (server, workstation, holographic), configure, upgrade, patch, and secure systems.

  • Install, upgrade, and maintain Windows based system hardware.

  • Familiarity with Multi-Domain functionality, Active Directory, Cross-Domain authentication, LDAP, Single Sign On technology.

  • Microsoft system related certifications preferred.

Preferred Qualifications (Across all Systems Engineering Environments):

  • Certificate/ key management experience including:

    • Strong knowledge of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Digital Certificate Management (DCM), and Hardware Security Modules (HSMs).

    • Monitor PKI and DCM systems, validate the integrity and accessibility of all server resources, hardware, systems, and key processes.

  • Knowledge of server and storage infrastructure, hardware, setup, and configuration.

  • SCAP and vulnerability scanning tools including Nessus and remediation experience.

  • DISA STIG implementation including system, device, and software hardening.

  • Setup and configuration of logging servers for networking, OS, and app clients.

  • Proficiency in scripting in applications (e.g. Shell, PowerShell, Bash, Python).

  • Platform automation for deployment and configuration (e.g., Ansible, Windows Configuration Designer).

  • IAT Level II or Level III certification.

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, or electrical engineering.

  • Experience with 5G, Wi-Fi, and other common forms of RF communications.

  • Experience working with classified data encryption and communication systems.

  • Familiarity with systems engineering tools such as Cameo.

Salary Range: $133,000 - $199,600
Salary Range 2: $107,300 - $160,900
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
