Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a candidate to support the Air Vehicle Hardware Avionics team at the Rancho Bernardo, San Diego, CA site.  The applicant will join our team of engineers who support the Triton Program Vehicle Management Systems (VMS) Integrated Product Teams (IPT) and will report to the Triton VMS Manager. The VMS IPT is responsible for the implementation of the subsystems required to maintain safe control of the trajectory of the vehicle in both up-and-away flight and on the ground.  The Hardware Avionics group is responsible for management of the following subsystems:  Identification Friend or Foe (IFF), Radar Altimeter (RadAlt), Air Data System (ADS), flight actuation system, and the Vehicle Management Computer (flight computer).  General duties for the candidate will include leading the supplier management team for VMS suppliers with a large scope of work to include development, production, and repair.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Has ultimate responsibility and accountability for success of Subcontract

  • Provides leadership for SMT; Sets Objectives and guide/direct Stakeholder activities

  • Facilitates open Communication and Collaboration as Focal Point for the Supplier

  • Drive Risk/Opportunities analysis and mitigations/capture activities

  • Drives affordability – focus on decisions that drive recurring engineering cost, support initiatives

  • Coordinate and report subcontract performance through the Vehicle Management Systems (VMS) Integrated Product Team (IPT)/Global Supply Chain (GSC)

  • Primary focal point for Supplier Statement of Work (SSOW), technical compliance and technical evaluation

  • Tracks Supplier Performance (SAMS)

  • Responsible for the cost, schedule and technical performance of one or more Supplier statements of work to meet program objectives, including monthly Estimate at Completion (EAC) forecast

  • Collaborate closely with responsible engineers, global supply chain, supplier quality, and program managers to support hardware/software development efforts for the platform and deployment to the fleet.

  • Support integration, test, and troubleshooting of supplier components into the Triton platform.

  • Effectively measure and communicate technical and project status to internal and external stakeholders

  • Effectively manage technical change proposals to meet program technical, cost, and schedule objectives

This role may be filled as a Principal Engineer (level 3) or Sr. Principal Engineer (level 4) based on the qualifications outlined below.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Basic qualifications for a Principal Engineer Avionics include a Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 5 years of experience, a Master's Degree in STEM with 3 years of experience, or a PhD Degree with no experience.

  • Basic qualifications for a Senior Principal Engineer Avionics include a Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 8 years of experience, a Master's Degree in STEM with 6 years of experience, or a PhD Degree with 3 years of experience.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOD Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Control Account Manager.

  • Previous experience managing suppliers through production and development phases.

  • An active DOD Secret clearance or higher.

Salary Range: $110,300 - $165,500
Salary Range 2: $137,400 - $206,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
