SUMMARY

Assists and performs tasks necessary to process a weekly payroll and maintains adequate records relating thereto. Ensures timeliness and accuracy of the weekly payroll, and investigates pay discrepancies. Provide customer service that exemplifies General Dynamics-NASSCOs values and guiding principles.

Reports directly to Payroll Administrator and/or Payroll Supervisor.

Exercises discretion when prioritizing activities within Payroll.

Maintains internal contacts with production support and supervision.

Maintains external contacts with government agencies and financial institutions to release authorized payroll information.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Weekly and Daily review of KABA Auto-time/Kronos exception reports.
  • Investigations and correction of pay discrepancies.
  • Research payroll issues concerning: earnings, deductions, taxes, and leave accruals.
  • Provides customer service to employees.
  • Performs data entry and analysis of KABA Auto-time/Kronos and PeopleSoft transactions.
  • Processes diverse on-cycle and off-cycle employee payments.
  • Identifies and helps implement process improvement initiatives.
  • Processes and calculates vacation pay advances.
  • Processes retroactive pay.
  • Assists in the analysis and processing of the weekly payroll.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely processing of assigned payroll transactions related to the above responsibilities.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Business related preferred.
  • Requires 2-5 years payroll experience with automated payroll systems and extensive knowledge of PeopleSoft HRMS/Payroll system, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of labor, timekeeping and human resources systems, experience with KABA Auto-Time/Kronos and PeopleSoft a plus. Proficient in use of MS Office Applications.
  • Ability to complete test for American Payroll Associations Fundamental Payroll Certificate.
  • Communicates effectively via verbal and written methods with all levels of employees and management.
  • Must be able to work on multiple projects with varying timelines and priorities.
  • Familiarity with NASSCO Bargaining Union Agreements and NASSCO Employee Benefit Programs and their interface with Payroll.
  • Possess strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Able to maintain high level of confidentiality regarding employee and company information.
  • Ability to work under pressure with strict deadlines in a high paced environment.
  • Position requires ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and travel as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS

Work primarily conducted in an office setting with good lighting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing. Must be physically able to commute to buildings throughout the shipyard. Occasional exposure to dust, fumes and moderate levels of noise.Physical demands include ability to operate payroll transportation cart, extended periods in standing position during service window hours, and lift and carry at least 25 lbs.

PAY SCALE

$61,600 - $80,300

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
