There is currently an opening for a Principal Engineer Material Process / Sr. Principal Engineer Material Process to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position falls under one of Northrop Grumman's Small Business Units, Sonoma Photonics, Inc. and will be located onsite in Santa Rosa, CA Responsibilities: Perform coating designs, tolerancing, analysis and process engineering for projects related to multiple technologies. Apply, as well as design and develop new techniques and coatings to meet product needs. Individually contribute to product development or program completion. The successful candidate can expect to receive technical guidance from senior engineers, program managers, and supervisory review on proposed plans. Build and revise material specifications and product specifications Advise customer on product innovations Resolve material concerns for production operations including MRB evaluations Develop ground-breaking solutions for design and manufacturing Verify manufacturing limits and ensure specifications are maintained Develop requirements for structural and chemical testing Lead root cause and corrective action requirement analysis Work will be conducted in both an office and lab/manufacturing environment with various temperatures and possible exposure to chemicals This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Engineer Material Process / Sr. Principal Engineer Material Process Basic Qualifications: Principal Engineer Material Process: Bachelor of Science (BS) in a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master of Science (MS) in a relevant STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience or PhD and 1 year of related engineering experience Sr. Principal Engineer Material Process: Bachelor of Science (BS) in a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master of Science (MS) in a relevant STEM discipline and 6 years of related engineering experience or PhD and 4 years of related engineering experience Familiarity with thin film materials and thin film characterization techniques Experience with statistical methods and analysis Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance and Special Access Program (PAR) Ability to clearly present and communicate ideas, concepts, and plans Proficient with Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint and Excel Excellent organizational skills Ability to model complex systems desired Capable of managing small projects Preferred Qualifications: Experience with thin films; thin film modeling software (TFCalc, Optilayer, etc.) Strong background in electromagnetics Current active Secret clearance (or higher)
