Primary Purpose:
The primary purpose of the Assistant Controller is to assist the Area Controller in helping operations to drive financial performance by monitoring key metrics that impact overall hotel performance while ensuring compliance with finance policy, procedures and practices.
Work Performed:
The Assistant Controller will be tasked with the following duties, responsibilities, and assignments in locations which will be assigned:
- Ensure compliance with property internal controls, Atrium SOPs, and safeguarding property assets;
- Manages against financial key performance indicators that are used to measure the assigned locations financial performance;
- Oversee the operations of hotel accounting departments to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll;
- Manage all daily processes in accounting systems including accurate and timely reporting of daily revenue;
- Monitor house funds, including cashier variances, providing coaching and disciplinary action, as required
- Perform month end tasks and general ledger items, working with Corporate Accounting team to complete financial reporting;
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements;
- Complete annual and interim external audits;
- Oversee accounting training programs. Identify accounting staff training development;
- Confirm accurate credit card and cash deposits;
- Manage Sales and Use Tax accruals and accounts as well as ensuring compliance with all sales and use tax regulations;
- Provide hotel leaders profitability and financial analysis to include labor reviews, forecasts, and budgets within assigned hotels;
- Deputize in the absence of the Area Controller;
- Any and all other work as required to complete the primary purpose of the position.
Qualifications:
Required Prior Experience:
3 + years of Hotel Financial Accounting experience
Strong working knowledge of the accounts payable, income audit, and general ledger reconciliation functions
Preferred Prior Experience:
Hotel accounting with emphasis in Income Journal, Accounts Receivable & Month End Journals.
Previous full-service hotel experience
Front desk experience
Required Education:
Bachelor’s in Accounting, Business, Finance, Management or other related discipline or equivalent experience
Required Technology:
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Technology:
Working knowledge of POS and PMS systems
