Lead Hydraulic Service Technician Job Summary

The Lead Hydraulic Service Technician will oversee and coordinate the installation, maintenance, and repair of hydraulic systems and components across various projects. This role involves hands-on work in addition to leadership responsibilities, such as managing a team of technicians, ensuring project deadlines are met, and providing technical expertise. The Lead Technician will be responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving complex hydraulic issues while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Lead Hydraulic Service Technician  Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and train a team of hydraulic technicians to ensure efficiency, quality, and safety on all projects.
  • Provide direction, guidance, and feedback to team members in the field, ensuring proper work practices and adherence to schedules.
  • Collaborate with other departments and customers to define technical requirements and project scope.

  • Oversee daily operations of hydraulic service teams and ensure tasks are completed per project timelines and specifications.
  • Supervise the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of hydraulic systems and components, ensuring high standards of quality and safety are maintained.
  • Lead the team in reading blueprints and diagrams while troubleshooting and diagnosing complex hydraulic problems.

  • Perform and manage preventative maintenance schedules to minimize system downtime and operational failures.

  • Manage welding, metal fabrication, and electrical assembly tasks as required for hydraulic system installations and repairs.
  • Provide technical expertise in reviewing hydraulic equipment drawings and schematics to suggest improvements and solutions.
  • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble hydraulic components as needed.

  • Lead the use of machine tools such as drill presses, lathes, and grinders to modify or fabricate parts for hydraulic systems.
  • Coordinate scheduling and work distribution among the team to ensure timely project completion.
  • Review and approve work done by the team, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.

  • Foster a positive, collaborative team environment focused on continuous improvement and high customer satisfaction.

Hydraulics Supervisor Position Requirements 

  • 5+ years of experience in the fabrication, assembly, and repair of hydraulic systems, with a proven track record in leadership or supervisory roles.
  • Extensive experience with troubleshooting and servicing various hydraulic components, including seals and cylinders.
  • Ability to effectively read and interpret hydraulic schematics and blueprints.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, components, and industry standards.
  • Welding, metal fabrication, and electrical assembly experience.
  • Proficiency in operating machines such as drill presses, lathes, and grinders.
  • Experience leading a team, with a focus on developing skills and driving performance.
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure, coordinate team efforts, and resolve complex issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with internal teams and clients.
  • Must be willing to work in non-climate-controlled environments, including onboard towboats, tugboats, and offshore supply vessels.
  • Willingness to work odd hours, including nights and weekends, in a 24/7/365 operational environment.
