Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history. PRIMARY FUNCTION: Control the preparation of various shipping documents and plan the transportation of products. 1. Control the preparation of shipping documents such as bills of lading, export declarations, shipping notices, express receipts, tags, labels manifests and Government bills of lading. 2. Determine the most economical and adequate type of carriers, route and classification for routine outbound shipments. 3. Review shipping papers and based upon volume and destination of items consolidate them for stop-off or split delivery shipments. 4. Coordinate the shipment of products with the manufacturing departments and the carrier. 5. Control the maintenance of the Government contract file and the preparation and distribution of DD-250, Receiving Report and Inspection Document. Furnish data to others as required. 6. Maintain familiarity with the various Government regulations, pamphlets, instructions and procedures. 7. Perform work of equal or lower code level as required. Scope purpose and frequency of contacts Daily contact with Operating and Traffic personnel of various carriers and associated industries to arrange transportation service or obtain equipment. Daily contact with Federal Government agencies, including DCASO-Sunnyvale, DCASR-SF, Burlingame, Naval Air Station, Alameda to arrange inspection, acceptance and transportation of Government property. Daily contact with Production, Purchasing, Customer Service, Plant Transportation, Accounting and other Departments relative to shipment of products. Frequent contact with carrier representatives, customer representatives and vendors relative to shipment of products. Frequent telephone contact with other Northrop Grumman locations regarding the status of shipment. DIRECTION OF OTHERS: Provides technical guidance to other clerical personnel in the preparation and distribution of shipping documents, such as DD-250’s and Government Bills of Lading. This is a Union represented position. EDUCATION: High school education, or its recognized equivalent. EXPERIENCE: Two years’ experience as a Traffic Specialist “C” or equivalent, with broad knowledge and understanding of general shipping practices and procedures, particularly oriented to shipping documentation as required by carrier’s tariffs and government regulations. Experience with Microsoft office suite US citizenship is required Preferred: 2 years’ experience with DOT (department of Transportation) hazardous material shipments with CFR49 (code of federal regulations) certification 2 years’ experience using various 3rd part logistics software to setup shipments.
