About The Position

Barton Associates is seeking a Physician Assistant specializing in Internal Medicine for a locum tenens assignment in Virginia. This opportunity involves providing care in a nursing home setting, starting 04/21/2025, for a duration of 70 days. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. The PA will be responsible for managing acute medicine cases, admissions, physicals, and chronic conditions.

Provider Type Needed: Certified Physician Assistant specializing in Internal Medicine 

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM 

Responsibilities and Duties: 

• Provide comprehensive care for post-acute and long-term care patients aged 50+ 

• Manage acute medical conditions and perform patient admissions 

• Conduct physical examinations and health assessments 

• Diagnose and treat chronic conditions common in older adults 

• Prescribe appropriate medications and treatments 

• Collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals 

• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records using PointClickCare and GeriMed systems 

• Ensure high-quality patient care and maintain professional standards 

• Adapt to the unique needs of geriatric patients in a long-term care setting 

• Provide patient and family education on health management and disease prevention 

• Participate in care planning and interdisciplinary team meetings 

• Stay updated on best practices in geriatric and internal medicine

Additional Information: 

• Virginia Physician Assistant license required 

• Experience in internal medicine and geriatric care essential 

• Comfort with managing diverse medical conditions in older adults 

• Ability to work effectively in a nursing home environment 

• Familiarity with electronic health record systems, particularly PointClickCare and GeriMed 

• Potential for assignment extension beyond the initial 70 days
