Under the supervision of the principal, the successful candidate works to plan, prepare, and deliver instruction to students based on their identified needs in a variety of environments.  A teacher who is kind, compassionate, energetic, and enthusiastic will find Wallingford-Swarthmore to be a great professional haven.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote the physical and cognitive development of all children. 
  • Provide a successful, safe and supervised educational setting for children with special services needs who have been evaluated and identified as having specific learning needs. 
  • Facilitate active learning while using relevant pedagogical practices and instructional technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Provide opportunities to stretch and grow students while providing appropriate challenge and support.
  • Observe and evaluate student performance outcomes; monitor the progress of students’ academic growth and development for the purposes of improving instructional outcomes.
  • Observe and record specific behavioral data and target individual goals and objectives in routine activities. 
  • Serve as a case manager; facilitate IEP meetings; coordinate communication between families and staff.  Encourage parent communication and involvement in all aspects of the program.
  • Adapt and modify classwork, homework, tests, assignments, and projects; provide appropriate and timely feedback to staff and students.
  • Supervise and coordinate other adults supporting students in the classroom environment.
  • Coordinate daily communication and collaboration with general education teachers, classroom staff, consultants and service providers.   
  • Contribute to content-based, cross-discipline, and/or student-based teams as a collaborative team member.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Pennsylvania Special Education Certificate PK-12 or PK-8
  • Ability to relate and communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Prior experience preferred
