Job Description:

The Clinical Supervisor collaboratively participates in daily departmental planning, decision making and developing nursing staff. As part of nursing leadership, supports the strategies, mission, vision and values of John Muir Health; assumes clinical leadership for the department; interprets and translates the theory of the care model into daily nursing practice; and uses information systems and resources effectively to achieve quality outcomes. The Clinical Supervisor advocates for staff and facilitates processes for the department; advocates for effective safe quality care for patients on the unit; and promotes the values and tenets of shared decision making working collaboratively with the unit council.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree Accredited School of Nursing - Required

  •  Master's Degree Accredited School of Nursing - Preferred

Experience:

  • 1-year Healthcare - Medical Acute Care Nursing - Required

  • 1 year Nursing - Charge Nurse or Team Leader - Required

  • 1 year Nursing - Specialty Care - Required

  • 1-year Nursing - Progressive Leadership Experience - Preferred

Additional Experience Requirements:
 

For WCMC Oncology Medical Acute Care Only:**

  • CoC Standard 4.2- Oncology Nursing Credential- 12 Oncology Specific CEU per year for a total of 36 CEU throughout 3-year accreditation cycle - Required

 

Certifications/Licensures:

  • RN Registered Nursing - California Board of Nursing - Required

  • BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association - Required

  • Specialty Certifications - ANCC American Nurses Credentialing Center - Required within 2 years of hire and Must be included in the list of allowed certifications by ANCC for Magnet demographics https://www.nursingworld.org/organizational-programs/magnet/program-tools/accepted-certifications/ 

  • Oncology Certified Nurse - Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation - Required for WCMC Oncology Medical Acute Care Only within 2 years of hire and Must be included in the list of allowed certifications by ANCC for Magnet demographics https://www.nursingworld.org/organizational-programs/magnet/program-tools/accepted-certifications/ 

  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate - ONS Oncology Nursing Society - Required for WCMC Oncology Medical Acute Care Only within 18 months of hire
     

Required for WCMC Adult ICU Only:

  • ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association - Required before completion of orientation to the assigned area

  • Approved Cardiac Rhythm Test - Must Pass at time of hire (Required if hired after 11/15/2018) Required

  • NIHSS National Institute of Health Stroke Scale - No Issuing Agency Certification - Achieved by the end of orientation to the assigned area - Required

  • NIHSS National Institute of Health Stroke Scale - No Issuing Agency Competency - Successful completion on an annual basis - Required

  • Attains 6 Trauma CEUs annually - Required

  • Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) – Required within 2 years of hire

  • CPI - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification program every two years - Required within 1 year of hire

  • Annual stroke care education as determined by department or Stroke Program - Required 

 

Required for WCMC PCU/NSD Only:

  •  Required for WCMC PCU/NSD Only:

  • ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association - Required before completion of orientation to the assigned area

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

For WCMC Oncology Medical Acute Care Only:

  • Must be competent to hang chemotherapy and oncology related medications once certified

  • Must be competent to manage venous access devices within 3 months

  • Must demonstrate competency and act as resource in the care of oncologic emergencies within 6 months

  • Must be competent to care for oncology and palliative care patients within 12 months

  • Must start demonstrating compliance with Standard 4.2 once the nurse has been employed for one calendar year

Required for WCMC ED ONLY:

  • ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association

  • PALS Pediatric Adv Life Support - American Heart Association

  • TNCC Trauma Nurse Core Course - Emergency Nurses Association

  • Mobile Intensive Care Nurse - County Public Health Dept

  • NIHSS National Institute of Health Stroke Scale - No Issuing Agency Certification - Achieved by the end of orientation to the assigned area 2 years in Emergency Nursing

  • NIHSS National Institute of Health Stroke Scale - No Issuing Agency Competency - Successful completion on an annual basis Required

  • 6 months of relief charge/charge nurse experience

  • Specialty Certification within 2 years of hiring into Supervisor role

Work Shift:

12.0 - 19:00 - 08:00 No Waive (United States of America)

Pay Range:

$88.63 - $119.41Hourly

Offer amounts are based on demonstrated/relevant experience and/or licensure.

Note: Positions at JMH which are exempt (not eligible for overtime) under the level of Manager are listed as hourly for compensation purposes on this posting. The work shift will contain the word ‘exempt’ on it.
