A psychiatrist specializes in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of mental, addictive and emotional disorders such as schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance-related disorders, sexual disorders, gender dysphoria and adjustment disorders. The psychiatrist is able to understand the biological, psychological and social components of illness and, therefore, is uniquely prepared to treat the whole person. The main form of treatment used by a psychiatrist is psychopharmacology. A psychiatrist is qualified to order diagnostic laboratory tests and to prescribe medications, evaluate and treat psychological and interpersonal problems and to intervene with families who are coping with stress, crises and other problems in living. We are seeking an outpatient psychiatrist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong clinical background in psychiatry and have a passion for teaching and mentoring residents. In addition to having your own patient panel, a significant part of this role will be to teach and supervise psychiatry residents in the outpatient clinical setting. This position could be a wonderful opportunity for an earlier career psychiatrist who is wanting to pursue a path in medical education as it can come with opportunities for academic appointment and develop into more formal roles in residency leadership. A more experienced psychiatrist who enjoys educating the next generation would be more than welcome as well. Psychiatrists do need to be comfortable supervising residents in a general adult outpatient clinical setting, but we would be open and thrilled to have applicants with fellowship training as well.
