Crown has expanded our aluminum can end ("lids") manufacturing facility in Winchester, VA. This state-of-the-art facility is a high speed manufacturer for some of the top consumer product companies.  We are in the process of adding talented people to continue their career with us. We are currently looking for a Quality Control Gauger.  The starting hourly rate is $22.40/hr.  In addition to competitive pay, Crown offers comprehensive benefits including free company paid health insurance for employees. Candidates for this position must be able to work all shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.  This position would be required to work overtime hours. 

Duties And Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Quality Control Manager, the Quality Control Gauger’s responsibilities would include, but will not be limited to, the following:  

  • Must effectively be able to communicate informed and analytical information to mechanics and management teams at all times.
  • Must know how to read, understand, and interpret paperwork and schedules.
  • Ability to operate and interpret controlled machines and have knowledge about Gauges.
  • Complete routine written documentation.
  • Ensure ALL processes are within specification both dimensionally and visually at all times.
  • Ability to understand and interpret the following: End Specifications, PO’s, metal thickness, pallet details, ESE’s, score gauge (MeTop), openability (Versatile), pop/pull, missile, tab strength, TRAC Sequence Machine, TRAC Shell, Exposure Gauge, buckle testing, compound placement (Ovec), leak detector (Ovec), weigh-up shells for compound checks, heat test, visual checks, paperwork – HFI’s, hold tickets, RGR’s log book.
  • Take care of overrun area. Complete blush test, and have the ability to trace and find beginning of defects on pallets and production lines.
  • Capable of restocking, repairing, sorting, scrapping, and visually inspecting pallets.
  • Must be able to comprehend Statistical Process Control, interpret and comprehend control charts, and follow reaction guidelines for ALL defects.

Minimum Requirements / Preferences

  • High School Diploma or GED Preferred.
  • Quality and Manufacturing experience Preferred.
  • Exhibits safety and quality as top priority.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced work environment, both as an independent contributor and as a team player
  • Cross training / mutli-skilling in other functions will be a basic expectation of any person hired.
  • Detail oriented and very accurate
  • Candidates must be flexible to work any shift and OT as required.   
  • Competencies include: 
  • Problem solving skills through an individual and/or collaborative approach.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Excellent time management skills and multi-tasking.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The associate may lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs / platforms.

 

Working Conditions

  • Manufacturing plant environment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate will be exposed to lifting, moving machinery, and forklift traffic.
  • Production noise level is frequently loud.

Must know how to read, understand, and interpret paperwork and schedules. Must be able to operate and interpret controlled machines. Must provide a work history with dates of employment.
