Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking a System Safety Engineer with experience in Safety Engineering processes and standards to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Woodland Hills, CA. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's System Safety team within Specialty Engineering. Activities include system safety analysis of avionics and navigation systems. They will work with other engineering disciplines such as Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, etc. to evaluate different programs Safety Engineering needs. This includes performing safety analyses on new programs as well as revisiting existing programs’ safety analyses that are going through obsolescence to evaluate the impact of the replacement components. The ideal candidate will have experience with MIL-STD-882E and familiarity with Military and their equivalent industry standards such as: MIL-STD-1629, DO-178B/C, DO-254, ARP-4754, ARP-4761, etc. A fundamental knowledge of Reliability Engineering principles and System Safety Program conduct in accordance with MIL-HDBK-217 and MIL-STD-882 is preferred. Fundamental knowledge of principles of reliability and safety engineering including the capability to perform: Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Reliability Predictions, Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Safety Analysis Report (SAR) and fundamental knowledge of statistics are preferred.
