Job Title: CIE Laboratory Technician
Location: Watford, WD25
Salary: £30,000 per year
Start Date: ASAP
Working Hours: 8:30 AM onwards, 7.5 hours per day (excluding lunch)
Days: 5 days per week
Our client is a leading provider of fire detection product testing and approvals under the internationally recognized LPCB brand. We test a wide range of fire detection products, ensuring that end users can trust the performance of the products they purchase. With world-class facilities for testing fire detection products to European and international standards, we provide a valuable service in the field of fire safety.

Why This Role Exists:
This role is essential in ensuring the testing and approval of fire detection products meet the highest standards. You will be working on the testing of control panels, detectors, components, and alarm transmission systems. Your work will support BRE's mission to provide trusted certification to customers, ensuring product quality, safety, and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform, coordinate, and project manage test programmes, ensuring proper control, recording, and reporting according to internal quality procedures.
  • Generate detailed technical test reports.
  • Analyse technical drawings and set up customer equipment in line with operating manuals.
  • Conduct testing in accordance with European, British, and LPCB standards (e.g., EN 54 product standard range).
  • Liaise with internal departments and customers to resolve technical issues.
  • Provide customers with regular project updates, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure technical integrity and quality of service are maintained.
  • Adhere to health and safety controls at all times.

What We Are Looking For:

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant electronic or mechanical qualification or equivalent.
  • Several years of hands-on experience in electronic or software-based testing.
  • Ability to work independently and competently without constant guidance.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Practical ability in handling tests or processes.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain good customer relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and databases.
  • Willingness to travel to client facilities locally and internationally once fully trained.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in certification or quality management processes.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience in climatic or mechanical testing (shock/vibration, etc.).
  • Experience within the Fire Detection or product testing and certification industry.
  • Experience in a UKAS accredited certification environment.
  • Ability to handle non-routine work.

Additional Functions for Senior Technicians (Optional):

  • Support team members, especially new starters, in the failure report process.
  • Assist in reviewing the suitability of projects for Test technicians.
  • Dedicate time to agreed tasks with the technical team.
  • Opportunity for progression into verification as needed.
  • Provide 'Buddying up' support and training to new starters.
