Astute's Power team is exclusively partnered with Rothes CoRDe to recruit an Engineering Manager for their Biomass Combined Heat & Power (CHP) Station in Rothes, Scotland. The plant process c.130,000 tons of biomass per annum which exports just over 7MW of electricity to the grid, enough to power 9,000 homes.

The vital Engineering Manager role comes with a salary of up to 67,000 + 13% Pension + relocation assistance (if needed) + benefits.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Plant Manageryou will be responsible for:
  • Developing, managing, and implementing the plant's expansion projects
  • Provide engineering support to the operations and maintenance departments, including fault finding on complex issues.
  • Primary lead on site for IT systems (including servers), SCADA, network and EC&I Support
  • Develop and implement operational improvement projects.
  • Oversee CapEx projects which are already ongoing for the station and continue to develop these if there are areas for development/improvement.
  • Be available for out of hours support in times of emergencies/plant issues.



Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
  • Ideally an HNC, or above, in a relevant engineering discipline - electrically/controls & instrumentation biased would be preferred but not a necessity
  • An IOSH or NEBOSH qualification will be advantageous.



Personal skills, prior experience, and knowledge

The Engineering Manager role would suit someone who has:

  • Prior experience in the power generation sector such as Biomass, CHP, Energy from Waste, Coal, CCGT, etc
  • Project management experience on plant upgrades, etc
  • Experience of managing budgets and in training and development of staff
  • Supervisory / management experience in the power generation or waste sector



Salary and benefits of the Operations Manager role
  • A basic salary of up to 67,000
  • Relocation assistance can be offered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Excellent pension scheme of 13% (EE is 3% minimum with ER being 10%)
