Our client, a pioneering entity in the space sector, is seeking an Intermediate Optics Systems Engineer to join their rapidly growing team in Didcot/Harwell. Specialising in advanced space sensors for exploration missions and space-based communication technology, this role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to some of the most exciting projects in the space industry.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing a technical interface to customers and subcontractors
  • Determining customer needs and managing engineering requirements
  • Developing innovative solutions and producing system budgets
  • Analysing performance and justifying design choices
  • Supervising design, integration, and test phases
  • Planning and conducting test campaigns; analysing test data
  • Troubleshooting hardware and software for space missions
  • Delivering verified flight equipment compliant to customer requirements


Job Requirements:


Essential:

  • Experience in design, manufacture and test of complex technological systems
  • Knowledge of optics, optical sensors, and opto-mechanical assemblies
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with formal configuration control methods
  • Understanding of qualification and acceptance environmental testing
  • Experience with systems engineering and test procedure development


Desirable:

  • Familiarity with ECSS standards
  • Experience working with systems designed for space environments
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Visual Basic, MATLAB/C or C++
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing, assembly, and testing
