Information about the Role: As a Support Worker at John Masefield House the main function of your role will be to provide exceptional care to service users, under the direction of the Registered Manager, in accordance with best practice, and in line with policy, procedures and legislation.

Working as a Support Worker at John Masefield your duties will include the following:

  • Assist service users individually as required to support them with daily routines and activities.
  • Providing emotional support for an individual and at times their families.
  • Maintain the hygiene, dignity, health and safety of service users at all times.
  • Ensure that service users’ rights are protected.
  • Encouraging and supporting the development of personal skills through hobbies and interests.
  • Observe service users ensuring a safe environment, protecting them from harm.
  • Working with other healthcare professionals to ensure that all care needs meet the highest possible standards.
  • Assist in the design and administration of an evaluation of the care standards and care service provision.
  • Maintain an awareness of Health and Safety requirements.

Information about the Service:

John Masefield House in Oxford is a specialist nursing home supporting adults with physical disability and/or long-term neurological conditions, including cerebral palsy, epilepsy, brain injury, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, speech impairment, spina bifida, hydrocephalus or stroke.

Many of our residents require assistance with meals, drinks, and general nutrition. Some residents have communication challenges or cannot communicate verbally. Our dedicated team gets to know everyone well, quickly learning how they communicate so that their needs can be responded to with respect and dignity.

Necessary Experience or Qualifications to work as a Support worker:

  • No experience needed for this role as full training will be provided.
  • However previous experience working as a Support Worker, Healthcare Assistant, Domiciliary Carer or Senior preferred.
  • Caring, kind and considerate.
  • Passionate about making a difference in someone else’s life.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Able handle sometimes challenging situations.
  • Able to build relationships with many different people and work flexibly.
  • Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (desirable).
