Environmental Manager

Location: Northeast / Yorkshire area

Contract: 9 months initially

Rate: 450 /day UMB (Negotiable)

We are partnering with a leading rail infrastructure contractor seeking an Environmental Manager to lead their Environment & Sustainability team. This role is critical for ensuring compliance, driving sustainability initiatives, and future-proofing rail systems operations.

Experience

  • 5+ years in environmental management, preferably within rail, construction, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Expertise in UK environmental legislation, ISO 14001 compliance, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Proven track record in managing environmental documentation (e.g., Environmental Management Plans, risk registers).
  • Strong communication skills for liaising with stakeholders, clients, and regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to environmental laws, permits, and industry standards.
  • Identify and mitigate financial, legal, and operational risks linked to environmental impacts.
  • Develop and implement strategies for pollution control, carbon reduction, waste management, and climate resilience.
  • Lead environmental incident investigations and root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
  • Produce and update Environmental Management Plans, method statements, and compliance reports.
  • Monitor KPIs, track trends, and report performance to senior leadership.
  • Support operational teams in reducing environmental impacts through best practices.
