Environmental Manager

Location: Northeast / Yorkshire area

Contract: 9 months initially

Rate: £450 /day UMB (Negotiable)

We are partnering with a leading rail infrastructure contractor seeking an Environmental Manager to lead their Environment & Sustainability team. This role is critical for ensuring compliance, driving sustainability initiatives, and future-proofing rail systems operations.

Experience

  • 5+ years in environmental management, preferably within rail, construction, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Expertise in UK environmental legislation, ISO 14001 compliance, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Proven track record in managing environmental documentation (e.g., Environmental Management Plans, risk registers).
  • Strong communication skills for liaising with stakeholders, clients, and regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure adherence to environmental laws, permits, and industry standards.

Identify and mitigate financial, legal, and operational risks linked to environmental impacts.

Develop and implement strategies for pollution control, carbon reduction, waste management, and climate resilience.

Lead environmental incident investigations and root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.

Produce and update Environmental Management Plans, method statements, and compliance reports.

Monitor KPIs, track trends, and report performance to senior leadership.

Support operational teams in reducing environmental impacts through best practices.
