About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Community Researcher to support the Afghan community in Hampshire. The applicant will be hosted by Hampshire County Council and will work closely with Communities First Wessex and NHS England Southeast. The role involves engaging with the Afghan community in Hampshire to gather views and generate ideas, analyse and report on data to inform community driven initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a deep understanding of the Afghan culture, and the ability to build trust and collaborate effectively with a range of diverse groups from the Afghan community.

The applicant does not need an academic background nor any qualifications in research. The scheme will provide all training and mentoring needed. Applicants must have a passion for making a difference in their local communities and be interested in engaging with them. This is a flexible working, casual contract. The applicant will need to have a right to work in the UK.

What is the day-to-day of the role:

  • Creating and implementing a research project of interest
  • Engaging with the Afghan community
  • Writing up notes, results and reports. Research may include video or other media to help articulate views or present findings
  • Regularly updating HCC and Community First
  • Attending meetings and mandatory training sessions
  • Present research findings and be part of a conversation to create a plan for action in your local community
  • There may be an element of travel occasionally within the Southeast to London, Brighton or Oxford once or twice a year

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Personal and professional links to the Afghan community
  • Knowledge of local area and support systems for migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers
  • Knowledge of IT systems, including ability to use emails and the internet to create simple plans and reports.
  • Ability to organise, plan and prioritise on own initiative, including when under pressure and meeting deadlines.
  • High level of written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and enthusiastically within a team or on own initiative.
