GSL Education is currently helping a well know secondary school in the Hampshire area to appoint a Lead Teaching Assistant.

As a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing support to the other Teaching Assistants, contributing to the growth and development of students of Key stage 3 & 4. While the school primarily caters to mainstream education, you will be supporting students with Special Education Needs; especially with Behavioural Needs, ADHD, Physical Challenges and Autism on a 1:1 or small group basis. Hence, prior experience or knowledge of SEN and sign language is mandatory. The ideal candidate for the Higher-Level Teaching Assistant role will possess relevant experience, leadership abilities, and love for young students.
Key Responsibilities:
- The primary focus will be on providing personalised support to students, reinforcing concepts, and assisting in their academic journey for a well-rounded educational experience.
- Play a pivotal role in creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere, actively promoting positive behaviour, and contributing to the development of a supportive school community.
- Contribute to the organisation and preparation of teaching materials, ensuring that the classroom is well-equipped to facilitate effective learning—a fundamental aspect of the Academic Support Assistant's role in a secondary school setting.
- Work closely with teaching staff and coordinate with the teaching assistants, fostering a collaborative spirit that enriches the educational environment and contributes to the overall success of the school.
Skills and Attributes:
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills both in verbal and sign language.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to cater to various exceptional learning styles.
- Empathy and patience in working with primary students with exceptional needs.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive educational environment.
- Patience, kindness and resilience to deal with children with behavioural needs or SEN.
- Certification of British Sign Language Level 3 or Makaton.

- Possess an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
- Have a DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one with GSL Education.
