Senior IoT Hardware/Firmware Engineer

Kent - 2 days/week

I have a new opportunity to join my growing client in the telecommunications / networking / connectivity sector, developing systems which enable their clients to access high-speed networking, cloud and IoT. They have projects for Blue Chip clients all over the world, so now is a really exciting time to join a well established, yet growing IoT organisation.

The role as Senior IoT Hardware/Firmware Engineer involves end-to-end design and development, including embedded firmware design and over-the-air (OTA) update capabilities. Ideally, you will possess strong expertise in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), Real-Time Kinematic (RTK), Ultra-Wideband (UWB), WiFi, Bluetooth, Near Field Communication (NFC), and advanced power management.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years in hardware design and firmware for portable IoT devices.
  • Experience with UWB, GNSS/RTK, WiFi, Bluetooth, and NFC system design.
  • Expertise in Cellular IoT, peripheral management via I2C, SPI, UART, and STM32/M3 processors.
  • Skilled in power management for low sleep current in battery-operated devices.
  • Embedded firmware development in C++ with OTA and large-scale deployment experience.
  • Familiarity with E-ink displays and audio integration (piezo, speakers, BT) is a bonus.
  • Proficient in hardware design tools like Altium Designer, KiCad, and Cadence.
  • Strong C++ programming with embedded development experience (Keil, IAR).
  • Deep knowledge of geolocation/IoT communication protocols, including AT commands and I2C.
  • Cellular technology and real-time data communication knowledge.
  • Understanding of radio technology coexistence in portable devices.
  • Experience in rapid prototyping and hardware testing.
  • Knowledge of IoT regulatory standards and certification.
  • Familiar with sensor integration and data acquisition.
  • Experience in agile development and potential RTOS use.
