About the Role
This Shift Engineer position is an exciting opportunity to maintain and optimise state-of-the-art equipment at a leading food production facility in Ashford. The role involves a mix of electrical (60%) and mechanical (40%) expertise, though we are open to candidates with a 50/50 split in skills.
You’ll be responsible for ensuring that production lines, cold storage facilities, and site utilities are operating safely and efficiently. The role offers variety, teamwork, and the chance to make a real impact on production performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Preventative & Reactive Maintenance:
- Diagnose and repair faults on packing hall lines, storage facilities, cooling towers, and wastewater plants.
- Implement preventative maintenance to maximise uptime and efficiency.
- Electrical & Mechanical Support:
- Conduct fault finding on PLCs, SCADA systems, power circuits, pneumatics, mechanical drives, and conveyors.
- Support projects that enhance equipment performance and factory efficiency.
- Collaboration & Problem Solving:
- Work closely with shift managers and operators to resolve technical issues.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimise production processes.
- Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure adherence to health and safety policies and risk assessments.
- Promote a culture of safety and best practices across the site.
Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for a proactive and hands-on engineer with a strong background in both electrical and mechanical systems.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Required:
- A minimum of one of the following:
- 4-year engineering apprenticeship (mechanical/electrical).
- City & Guilds Level 3 Engineering Diploma.
- NVQ Level 3 in Engineering Maintenance.
- 17th or 18th Edition BS 7671 Electrical Wiring Regulations qualification.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a similar multi-skilled role.
- Expertise in PLC fault finding, SCADA systems, power and control circuits, pneumatics, and mechanical drives.
- A minimum of one of the following:
- Desirable:
- Previous experience in the food or drinks industry (3 years or more preferred).
- Familiarity with wastewater systems and cooling tower checks.
