Hello,

My client in Milton Keynes is currently in need of a Quality Manager.

Reporting to the Engineering and Operations Director, you will be responsible for the maintenance and management of the company’s quality, health & safety and environmental systems and for ensuring compliance and monitoring and reporting related performance across the business.

An immediate objective is the development of a new ISO 14001 environmental system through to successful accreditation, and subsequently a ISO 45001 health and safety system.

Please note that because of the defence related nature of our business you will be required to undergo security clearance vetting and will need to meet special nationality rules. Therefore this vacancy is only open to British Citizens.

The role.

  • Responsible for the maintenance and management of the company’s quality, health & safety and environmental systems.
  • Reviewing existing procedures to ensure they reflect current Company practice and that they meet ISO (or other relevant standards body), safety, legal and other related standards and implementing authorised changes and improvements as necessary.
  • Continually monitoring and auditing staff observation of rules, compliance with procedures and quality related output, implementing authorised colleague training and development as necessary.
  • Maintaining a schedule of internal audits, undertaking these in line with the respective standards.
  • Carrying out quality investigations when required.
  • Undertaking supplier audits and collaborating with suppliers to ensure the flow-down of company and customer quality requirements and that these are continually achieved.
  • Monitoring and analysing quality control activity, collating performance data and preparing reports.
  • Managing the inspection, maintenance and repair of machinery, tools, ladders and lifting equipment, ensuring PUWR compliance.
  • Ensuring COSH compliance, that all chemicals are properly labelled and accurately recorded.
  • Undertaking fire drills and tests and the management and maintenance of all fire related equipment.
  • Carrying out health and safety and quality inductions for new starters when required and authorised refresher training for colleagues as necessary.
  • Monitoring company waste and environmental impact and implementing strategies to minimise.
  • Maintaining and enhancing own knowledge and tracking updates and changes to ensure Company compliance with all aspects of applicable quality, health and safety and environmental legislation and standards, implementing authorised improvements as necessary.

Supporting commercial and project delivery teams by:

Writing high quality documents in response to requests for information arising from tenders and contracts to demonstrate compliance.

Producing contract / tender specific quality, health and safety and environmental management plans as necessary.

Potentially supporting commercial and engineering teams by:

Advising on product safety management, including identification of legislative and regulatory requirements, safety reviews (as non-technical lead), maintenance of hazard logs and safety cases.

Promoting a continual improvement mindset and helping to improve standards and working practices throughout the business. As part of this continual improvement strategy, you will need to:

Promote a culture of quality and continual improvement.

Identify weaknesses in existing systems and processes and propose improved solutions.

Prioritise areas for improvement which will have the greatest impact on the business.

Take initiative, be creative and develop new ideas to help move the business forward.

Preparing and maintaining risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).

Assisting with the expansion of Lean Manufacturing throughout the factory, particularly 5S.

Representing the business and attending meetings with customers as required.

Advising the Board and providing reports as required.

And any other similar tasks as required.

Please note - This role is office based at our Milton Keynes offices.

Your profile.

You must be a highly experienced quality professional, a self-starter and prepared to take complete ownership of all aspects of QHSE across our business. Also NEBOSH qualified or with significant experience in HS & E or related area.

Excellent communicator, proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. You must have excellent organisational skills with the ability to write reports to the highest standard and be able to self-manage and prioritise your work. Obviously you should have excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

Ideally you should also be practical and hands-on.
