Job Overview:

We are looking for a reliable and dedicated School Caretaker to ensure the school premises are well-maintained, safe, and secure for students, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will take pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and maintenance while being proactive in identifying and addressing potential issues.

Key Responsibilities:Site Maintenance & Repairs:
  • Carry out routine maintenance, repairs, and minor improvements to school buildings and facilities.

  • Perform regular inspections to identify and report any safety hazards or maintenance issues.

  • Arrange for and oversee external contractors when necessary.

Security & Safety:
  • Open and close the school buildings, ensuring they are secure at all times.

  • Monitor and maintain the security systems, including alarms and CCTV.

  • Ensure fire safety procedures are followed, including regular fire alarm testing and emergency drills.

Cleaning & Waste Management:
  • Maintain cleanliness in key areas such as hallways, classrooms, and outdoor spaces.

  • Manage waste disposal and recycling procedures.

  • Ensure hygiene and sanitation supplies are stocked and replenished.

Groundskeeping & General Upkeep:
  • Maintain outdoor areas, including playgrounds, car parks, and garden spaces.

  • Carry out seasonal tasks such as gritting pathways in winter or minor landscaping.

Health & Safety Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

  • Conduct risk assessments and take action to minimize hazards.

  • Keep records of maintenance checks, incidents, and safety procedures.

Person Specification:Essential:
  • Previous experience in a caretaking, maintenance, or facilities role.

  • Basic DIY and repair skills.

  • Good understanding of health & safety regulations.

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.

  • Reliable, trustworthy, and well-organized.

Desirable:
  • Experience working in a school or similar environment.

  • Knowledge of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations.

  • First Aid or Fire Safety training.
