Senior Mechanical Engineer – Staff or Possibly Outside IR35 Contract – Nuclear – Salary + Benefit or Hourly Rate – Hybrid Working - 4 Day Working Week - Lancashire

Our leading client operates within the nuclear sector, and they are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer on a staff or contract (outside IR35) basis. You’ll be responsible for specification and development of concept, scheme and detail designs, ensuring a compliant and safe design and achievement of quality standards.

You will be working within a design office, there is also a manufacturing facility on site. You will also have the opportunity to work on prestigious projects for a leading nuclear based company. Material or mechanical handling project experience would be preferred. 

Production and checking of technical documentation and drawings to support the development and substantiation of engineering design solutions. Ensure quality standards are met first time and nuclear safety culture is positively role modelled and upheld.

Duties:

  • Undertake engineering activities to budget and schedule, providing early identification of variances from project baseline (scope, cost and schedule).
  • Support the Principal Engineer in identifying the completion status of engineering activities and the forecasting of activity completion.
  • Ensure conventional and nuclear safety principles are applied in the development of engineering design solutions.
  • Produce design risk assessments to identify product lifecycle hazards and establish risk reduction control measures to eliminate, reduce or control risks.
  • Produce scoping calculations to support the initial development of engineering design solutions prior to formal assessment by Stress Engineers.
  • Work closely with Stress Engineers to define analysis requirements and load cases to substantiate engineering design solutions.
  • Develop engineering design solutions in compliance with engineering requirements and applicable codes and standards.
  • Where UKCA / CE marking is required, develop engineering design solutions in compliance with applicable legislation, regulations and standards (designated or harmonised), and their associated essential health and safety requirements.
  • Undertake and record verification and validation activities (including conformity assessments) to demonstrate compliance with engineering requirements and applicable legislation, regulations and standards.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines to ensure fully integrated multidiscipline engineering design.
  • Undertake engineering activities in accordance with processes and procedures identified in Design Quality Plans.
  • Produce engineering deliverables to expected quality standards, ensuring 'right first time' principles and minimising rework.
  • Provide engineering support for resolution of technical issues and requests during procurement, manufacture, assembly, testing, installation and commissioning.


Experience & Qualifications:

  • Ideally a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or an engineering discipline relevant to the role.
  • Maintain proficient knowledge of the Machinery Directive, LOLER, PUWER, CDM and other applicable legislation, regulations and standards, and their associated application in the engineering design process.
  • Industry experience in either nuclear, materials handling or similar environment would be preferred.
  • Produce Concept, Scheme and Detail Design 3D models and drawings, ensuring operation, maintenance, manufacture, construction and installation requirements are addressed.
