Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Head Chef to join an energetic hospital team. We believe that our patients deserve the highest standard of care, which includes provision of delicious, high quality, freshly prepared, and healthy meals.

The role is for an enthusiastic, able, hands-on, results-driven Head Chef who can lead by example to manage the catering team.

What we are looking for:

  • A great supportive colleague who is able to cook delicious food.
  • An organised manager.
  • NVQ level 2/3 in catering (minimum) or equivalent, along with food safety certificate level 3.
  • An excellent knowledge of HACCP, food hygiene and food preparation, along with a positive attitude and a desire to deliver the best possible service to the residents in our care.
  • Experience of working with people with specific dietary and allergy requirements would be advantageous and the ability to work with and grow in understanding and knowledge, of a clinical multidisciplinary team including Speech and Language therapy and dietician.
  • Great food skills and the ability to launch and promote seasonal menus.
  • Be competent at completing all health and safety paperwork and follow the guidelines as set by the hospital, governing bodies and environmental health.
  • Experience of managing and formulating rotas.
  • Ability to be flexible and take on different tasks as and when required.
  • High standards and an eye for detail.
  • Hard working, energetic and confident.

Key responsibilities as a team

  • Prepare all meals within the hospital paying consideration to special dietary requirements and individual requests.
  • To provide residents with a healthy, balanced diet whilst maintaining a variety of different meals that meet the standards in terms of quality and presentation.
  • Ensure that a daily record is completed of meals provided to all individual residents including any alternative selections or arrangements.
  • Develop a positive relationship with all patients, staff and other visitors to the hospital by becoming an integral part of the team.
  • Regularly seek feedback from patients and staff in order to continually improve the level of service we offer.
  • To maintain and respect at all times the confidentiality of patients’ information and to pass on any queries or concerns to the Manager.
  • In accordance with Company procedures, ensure that regular orders for food provisions are prepared and placed in time for appropriate delivery to maintain and manage stock levels to meet the demand for the service.
  • To maintain all food hygiene and health and safety requirements in accordance with Legal Legislation and Company Policies and Procedures.
  • To maintain clear, concise and accurate paperwork to satisfy legislative requirements and provide an audit trail.
  • Maintain a clean hazard free kitchen in order to minimise risks.
  • Promote high standards of catering by ensuring all staff are supervised appropriately and the kitchen operates in a smooth efficient manner.
  • Undertake mandatory training and ensure supervisions are undertaken together with annual appraisals.

An enhanced DBS (England) or PVG/Disclosure Scotland (Scotland) Disclosure will be required for all successful applicants. Costs will be met by the Company.
