Health & Safety Manager

Our Client are a leading plant machinery company dedicated to delivering excellence in all areas of our business. They are committed to ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental management across all their operations and are now seeking a highly skilled and motivated HSQE Manager to join their team and help them maintain and enhance these standards.

Job Overview:

As the HSQE Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing health, safety, quality, and environmental policies and procedures. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and industry standards, while promoting a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence. Additionally, you will be responsible for the overall management of our dedicated training teams, who provide safety related and operator training, both internally and to our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and maintain HSQE policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and standards related requirements.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and implement controls, as well as identifying areas for improvement.
  • Lead investigations into incidents and accidents, and ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken. Act as the responsible person for the reporting of incidents as per legislative standards.
  • Coordinate and deliver HSQE training programs for employees at all levels.
  • Monitor and report on HSQE performance, including the preparation of detailed reports and presentations for senior management.
  • Ensure that all quality management systems are maintained and continuously improved in line with ISO standards.
  • Ensure that environmental management systems are also maintained and improved in line with ISO standards.
  • Promote a positive HSQE culture across the organisation through effective communication and engagement strategies.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, clients, and other stakeholders on HSQE matters.
  • Stay up to date with industry best practices and changes in legislation, and ensure that the company remains compliant.

Key Requirements:

  • A degree or equivalent level qualification in Environmental Sciences, Quality Management, or a related field.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification in Health and Safety.
  • Membership of IOSH at Certified (CertIOSH) level as a minimum.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within the Plant hire/Construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of HSQE legislation and standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing HSQE management systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software.

Desirable:

  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IOSH, IEMA, CQI).
  • Experience in conducting internal and external audits.
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices and corporate social responsibility (CSR).
  • Experience of delivering Health and Safety related training or other instructional qualification.
