An esteemed high street law practice with a national reputation for excellence is seeking a Compliance Manager. This role is pivotal in maintaining the firm’s adherence to professional standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator with a comprehensive understanding of legal compliance frameworks.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Oversee risk management for the firm, ensuring all practices align with professional standards and regulations.
  • Act as the Complaints Manager, addressing client complaints and liaising with the Legal Ombudsman as necessary.
  • Communicate with Professional Indemnity Insurance regarding claims.
  • Review and update the firm’s policies and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Conduct training sessions for the firm, advising on necessary training and maintaining risk registers, including high-risk and breach registers.
  • Develop best practices for the firm to follow, ensuring staff compliance with obligations and quality standards.
  • Keep knowledge up-to-date, address training needs, and attend courses as appropriate.
  • Participate in monthly meetings to report on compliance status and strategies.
Required Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in a similar role is essential
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels.
  • Strong investigative skills and a sound knowledge of the law within their area of practice.
  • Ability to handle a varied workload and adapt to a changing environment.
  • Professional approach to work, maintaining patience and good manners at all times.
  • Supervisory skills with the ability to respond to employee needs.
  • Highly organised with the capability to manage issues across multiple locations.
  • A sound understanding of Lexcel requirements, SRA handbook, LAA Crime Contract and Specifications, and AML regulations.
  • Good working knowledge of the SRA and Law Society requirements, including SQMs.
  • Knowledge of the legal aid and criminal frameworks.
