Why Join Our Client?
Our client is a forward-thinking organisation dedicated to social enterprise, creating opportunities for Veterans and Supported Employees across the UK. With a strong presence in both Scotland and England, they are now seeking a Graduate Design Engineer to play a pivotal role in optimising production efficiency, implementing continuous improvement strategies, and shaping the future of their new state-of-the-art factory.
If you have strong CAD skills, a passion for process improvement, and some exposure to manufacturing environments, this is an incredible opportunity to make a tangible impact in a meaningful and rewarding environment.
The Role
This role is ideal for someone with a strong CAD background who has also gained some hands-on experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment. While you don’t need to have designed factory layouts before, understanding manufacturing processes and workflows is essential to ensure practical and efficient designs.
This role is split into two key focus areas:
- Factory Optimisation & Design - Supporting the Managing Director and Operations Manager in designing and streamlining the layout and workflow of a brand-new manufacturing facility, including capital equipment selection and supplier engagement.
- Continuous Improvement Across UK Sites - Implementing and managing a national Continuous Improvement (CI) system across multiple UK manufacturing sites, driving innovation in manufacturing processes and materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead a national Manufacturing Continuous Improvement initiative, collaborating closely with MDs, Operations Managers, and Team Leaders.
- Support the design and layout of the new-build factory, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, and accessibility for a diverse workforce.
- Utilise CAD software to create and refine factory layouts, ensuring an optimal workflow.
- Conduct industrial research and implement best practices in manufacturing processes.
- Attend daily meetings and apply problem-solving techniques to enhance production efficiency.
- Track and report on the performance of CI initiatives, ensuring sustained improvement.
- Work closely with teams across the UK, requiring regular travel to manufacturing sites.
What We’re Looking For:
Essential:
- A degree or apprenticeship in Mechanical, Industrial, or Production Engineering (or a related field).
- Strong CAD skills with experience in creating layouts and designs.
- Some exposure to manufacturing, assembly, or production environments - this could be through work placements, internships, or post-graduate experience.
- A proactive mindset with an ability to problem-solve and work collaboratively.
Desirable:
- Experience in process improvement or continuous improvement projects.
- Some familiarity with ERP systems and management systems.
- Knowledge of SharePoint and project management methodologies.
This role is an excellent opportunity for graduates or early-career engineers looking to apply their CAD skills in a manufacturing setting, with significant mentorship and guidance from experienced industry professionals.
What’s in It for You?
- The chance to work on a new-build factory project, shaping the future of UK manufacturing.
- A role that offers national exposure, engaging with multiple manufacturing sites.
- A meaningful career within a social enterprise, making a real difference in people’s lives.
- A competitive salary with long-term career progression opportunities.
