The role will need to be based on site in the early stages but hybrid working is available long term. Our client has future projects working on South East Water and Severn Trent Water ranging from 500k to 30m in value.
They are looking for a strong SQS with experience in NEC3/4 contract management and cost control within the water industry. The successful candidate will play a key role in the financial management of projects, ensuring that budgets, timelines, and quality standards are met. You will have experience working with NEC contracts, ideally on water-related projects, and will take responsibility for the commercial aspects of projects from pre-construction through to completion. Other sector experience may be considered with strong heavy civils construction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contract Administration: Manage the commercial aspects of projects using NEC3/4 contracts, ensuring compliance with all contract conditions and commercial terms.
- Cost Control: Monitor and manage project costs, including the preparation of budgets, cost reports, and forecasts. Provide accurate cost advice to project teams and senior management.
- Procurement: Oversee the procurement process, including the preparation of tender documents, evaluation of contractor/subcontractor bids, and contract negotiations.
- Risk Management: Identify and manage project risks, including preparation of risk registers and mitigation strategies.
- Value Engineering: Lead value engineering exercises to ensure cost efficiency while maintaining high standards of quality and performance.
- Client Liaison: Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and stakeholders, acting as the primary point of contact for all commercial issues.
- Change Control: Manage change events, including assessing the impact of variations and submitting quotations for approval.
- Reporting: Provide regular updates and reports to senior management, ensuring that all financial and contractual matters are transparent and up to date.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and support junior team members, offering guidance and advice as needed.
Skills/experience/qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in the construction or water industry.
- In-depth knowledge of NEC3/4 contract forms and experience in managing projects using these contracts.
- Experience working in the water sector (desirable but not essential).
- Strong understanding of cost planning, budgeting, and financial management.
- Ability to interpret and negotiate contract terms and conditions.
- Experience in managing change control and risk management processes.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Membership with a relevant professional body (RICS, CIOB, etc.) is preferred but not essential.
- Ability work autonomously and part of site teams
