Contract Length: 3-6mths 

I am currently looking for a Public Liaison Officer to work with my client on a highways project, this is a really interesting time to join the project at early stages. The ideal candidate will be based on site and home working, of course with this role it may involve meetings in the evenings so there will need to be some flexiability. 

Role Overview:
As the Public Liaison Officer, you will be the primary point of contact for the public, acting as a bridge between the project team and the local community. Your key responsibilities will include managing communication, handling enquiries, resolving complaints, and ensuring that all relevant parties are kept informed of progress and potential disruptions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement community engagement strategies to maintain positive relationships with local residents, businesses, and stakeholders.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for public inquiries, addressing concerns and resolving complaints in a timely and professional manner.
  • Organize and attend community meetings, public consultations, and other events to provide project updates and gather feedback.
  • Ensure that all relevant parties are informed of upcoming works, road closures, diversions, and any other potential impacts.
  • Provide regular updates to the project team on community sentiment and issues arising from public interactions.
  • Maintain accurate records of all interactions, concerns, and resolutions.
  • Collaborate with local authorities, emergency services, and other relevant organizations to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Monitor social media platforms and local news for feedback and community sentiment.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in public liaison, community relations, or a similar role, ideally in construction, infrastructure, or highways projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a proactive and positive attitude towards addressing concerns and resolving issues.
  • Experience working in Somerset or knowledge of the local area is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and adaptability.
  • A confident and empathetic approach to dealing with the public and maintaining professional relationships.
