Makaton Teaching Assistant

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant who has completed Makaton training and has a knowledge of BSL (British Sign Language)? Are you seeking a new opportunity?

Remedy is currently seeking a Makaton trained Teaching Assistant on behalf of one of our partner Secondary SEN schools. This role involves providing one to one support to a Deaf pupil with SEMH. You will be expected to utilise your Makaton training daily and aid the pupil with their learning. Ultimately, you will help the pupil raise their engagement and attainment.

The most desirable candidate will have:

  • Experience working with children with Autism and SEMH (Autism Awareness training is preferred but not essential)
  • Makaton training
  • Experience working in schools is essential as is knowledge of working against a support plan / behaviour plan
  • Foundational BSL
  • Experience of working with Deaf pupils
  • A positive, caring and pro-active attitude
  • Creativity
