An East London local authority is seeking a dedicated and experienced Service Manager for Private Sector Housing to lead our efforts in ensuring the highest standards of housing quality and compliance across our community.

As the Service Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the management and regulation of private sector housing within our borough. You will directly manage a team of 25 housing officers, inspectors, and support staff, guiding them to deliver exceptional service to our residents and landlords.

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • A BSc in Environmental Health or a relevant housing qualification, demonstrating your expertise in housing management and regulatory compliance.
  • Substantial experience in housing management, ideally within a local authority or similar public sector setting.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team to achieve common goals.
  • Excellent knowledge of housing legislation, regulations, and best practices, particularly relating to the private rented sector.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, project management, and performance monitoring.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing strategies to improve housing standards and tackle issues such as disrepair, overcrowding, and housing-related health hazards.
  • Leading your team to deliver effective enforcement, advice, and support services to residents and landlords.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders including residents, landlords, partner agencies, and local community groups to address housing-related challenges and promote sustainable housing solutions.
  • Monitoring and evaluating service delivery, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and performance targets.
  • Providing expert advice, guidance, and training to staff, elected members, and external stakeholders on private sector housing matters.
