We are looking for a Benefits, Taxation & Income Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing new claims and changes in circumstances for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support, including Supported Accommodation. This role requires someone with experience in Council Tax Billing input and familiarity with financial systems such as Captia Academy and NEC Enterprise.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Assess new claims and changes in circumstances for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support.
  • Navigate and input data into the Council’s financial management systems for various financial administration tasks.
  • Proactively challenge the legitimacy of data and undertake systematic checks to ensure robustness.
  • Investigate and resolve queries and complaints, providing excellent customer service.
  • Maintain accurate records using corporate electronic systems and spreadsheets.
  • Administer financial services documentation and correspondence.
  • Undertake telephone duties and provide information and guidance on council services.
  • Contribute to business process re-engineering improvements to drive forward efficiencies.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to maintain effective communication links.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a Financial Services environment.
  • Proficiency in IT and Microsoft packages.
  • Ability to work to and meet strict deadlines.
  • Experience in a customer services environment and problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with sensitive and confidential information handling.
  • Previous experience using ERP financial management systems (e.g., SAP).
  • For higher levels, additional experience in complex customer service issues, data extraction for management information, and coaching or training is required.
