Finance Officer

We are seeking an experienced Finance Officer with a specialisation in Council Tax assessment to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance of council tax records, awarding discounts, exemptions, and reliefs to ensure accurate billing. This role requires a deep understanding of relevant legislation and excellent customer service skills.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Manage council tax assessment for specified developments, ensuring accurate billing and compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Proactively challenge the legitimacy of data and undertake systematic checks to ensure robust data management.
  • Investigate and resolve queries and complaints, providing a customer-focused service and maintaining communication with stakeholders.
  • Navigate and input into the Council’s financial management systems for financial administration tasks.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to maintain effective communication and collaborative working relationships.
  • Contribute to business process re-engineering improvements to drive forward efficiencies and improved performance.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a Financial Services environment, particularly with council tax assessment.
  • Proficiency in IT and Microsoft packages, with experience using ERP financial management systems (e.g., SAP).
  • Ability to work to and meet strict deadlines in a customer services environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle confidential information sensitively.
  • Knowledge of local government financial procedures and statutory regulations.
  • Experience with Academy and Enterprise systems.
