Barnsley Council is launching an initiative to assist local residents in claiming Pension Credit, which is crucial for eligibility for the Winter Fuel Allowance from Winter 2024. We are seeking two enthusiastic Customer Service Advisors to support this important initiative. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about providing excellent customer service and making a significant impact in the community.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Respond to customer enquiries through various channels including telephony, face-to-face, email, web chat, and social media, adhering to the Council’s Digital First principles and professional conduct standards.
  • Analyse and interpret information provided by customers accurately to make informed decisions from a range of options.
  • Maintain awareness of key legislation and policies that impact service delivery.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and information flow.
  • Promote a customer-focused service by handling complaints and difficult interactions with professionalism, initiative, and resilience.
  • Encourage customer independence through self-service channels and promote the Council’s digital services.
  • Perform general financial administration tasks, including processing service requests and taking payments.
  • Support, assess, and process applications in line with guidelines to determine eligibility.
  • Contribute positively to team performance, support colleagues’ training and development, and participate actively in team planning.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience working with the public in a customer service role.
  • Proficient in using multiple communication channels and electronic information recording.
  • Skilled in providing advice, support, and guidance.
  • Experience handling confidential information.
  • Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
