HR Advisor - Maternity Cover

Our client a leading construction and structural steel company who operate throughout the UK and Europe, are seeking a HR Advisor on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave, based in Barnsley to join their team, for up to 15 months. This would be a fully office-based position, with occasional travel to their other sites, so access to your own vehicle would be essential. They would be offering a salary of between £35 - £45k depending on experience.

What will you be doing?

They are looking for a HR Advisor with extensive experience in employee relations. The ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to handle complex employee relations issues and drive initiatives that improve our processes and support their talented workforce. You will provide expert advice and support to managers and employees on all employee relations matters, these will vary in complexity and volume. You will manage and resolve employee relations issues in line with up-to-date employment law knowledge taking a consistent approach. You will assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures. You will support in investigations and disciplinary hearings, providing advice and guidance where necessary, taking accurate minutes of meetings. You will work together with fellow HR team members to develop and provide training sessions to line managers on key HR topics such as absence management, performance management, and handling disciplinary and grievance issues. You will monitor and analyse employee trends and metrics, providing insights and recommendations, Production of HR KPIs and monthly management reports. You will manage recruitment campaigns, including sourcing of suitable candidate and coordination of interviews. You will ensure the preparation of new starter paperwork is up to date including drafting of employment contracts, including the Induction and onboarding of new starters. You will ensure management of company benefit schemes, and support on any key HR projects as required.

What skills will you have?

  • You need to be able to communicate effectively and establish strong relationships with stakeholders across all levels within the group.
  • The department is busy and fast moving so the ability to manage your own workloads and prioritise effectively is key.
  • You should ideally be CIPD qualified, although not essential if you can demonstrate a strong background in providing employee relations advice.
  • You must be a proactive and self-motivated professional, with a strong work ethic. You should have excellent people skills and be a hard-working team player to succeed in this role.
  • You must have a driving licence and access to your own vehicle. Occasional travel to other business premises will be a requirement of the role, this may involve the occasional overnight stay.
  • Previous experience of working in an equivalent HR role, 2+ years as a minimum.
  • IT literate and proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to handle data confidentiality.
  • You will have excellent communication skills, written and verbal with the ability to communicate at all levels.
  • You will have good organisation and time management skills.
  • You will be highly accurate and strong attention to detail.
  • You will have experience and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • You will have the ability to build effective relationships and work as an effective team member collaboratively to achieve goals.
  • You will be self-motivated, with a flexible approach to work.
  • You will have the capability to learn new systems and have the ability to multitask, and manage time and workload effectively
