Complex Needs Support Assistant.

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of students with complex needs? Veritas Education is working with a range of special schools in Barnsley and the surrounding areas, and we are looking for a compassionate and motivated Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to join our team.

About the Role:

As a Complex Needs Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students on a 1:1 basis to ensure they thrive in their learning and development. You will work closely with teachers and other staff to create a nurturing and safe environment that promotes independence, learning, and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to students with complex needs, helping them access the curriculum and develop their skills.
  • Assist with personal care and hygiene where necessary, ensuring the comfort and well-being of the students.
  • Collaborate with the teacher to identify additional needs and adapt plans and activities to suit each student's individual requirements.
  • Help prepare learning materials and support the creation of an engaging, dynamic classroom environment.
  • Offer both emotional and practical support to students throughout the school day, creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience working with children or adults with complex needs.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to connect with students and colleagues effectively.
  • A calm, patient approach, particularly in challenging situations.
  • The ability to read and respond to non-verbal cues, physical emotions, and behaviours.
  • Experience in the care sector or and in an educational enviroment is advantageous but not essential.

What We Require:

  • A clear enhanced DBS check.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Photo identification.
  • 2 satisfactory references.
  • Overseas police check (if applicable).
  • Previous experience in supporting children with complex needs is preferred.
