Pay Band 4: £25,391 to £28,023 inclusive of fringe

36.25 hours per week

The borough of Basildon is alive with opportunity and has the ingredients to be one of the most successful and desirable places in the South East. As the largest economy in the Thames Estuary outside London, we are incredibly proud of what we have achieved but we are never complacent. We are driving inclusive, sustainable growth to provide opportunity and prosperity for local people and businesses, access to quality homes, vibrant town centres and an enhanced local environment.

The post holder will work within the Home Ownership Team who will be responsible for the billing and collection of Service Charges, Major Works, District Heating usage/Standing Charge, Shared Ownership Rent Collection and Housing Sundry Debtors.

The team is also responsible for the Tenant's Right to Buy Scheme, Shared Ownership and Leasehold Management.

We are looking for someone who ideally has an understanding of income collection and experience of working in a Housing and Home Ownership Section. However, this is not essential as full training will be given to the applicant who displays the ability and interest to learn the role.

You will need to demonstrate a knowledge of relevant legislation and recovery procedures. You will, however, need to be self-motivated and an effective team player, with excellent customer care, communication and IT skills.

The post holder will have dealings with the public and may conduct face to face interviews in the office. However, the majority of the contact with the public will be over the telephone both on-site and from home or in writing. You will also be required to draft/respond to queries from Councillors/MP’s and members of the public, who are distraught or aggrieved, via the Council’s complaints procedure.

The nature of the work requires the ability to use your own initiative and to organise workloads in order to respond to various pressures within the section. The successful candidate will also be required to provide information relating to complex cases for Management to consider recommended action. You may also be required to provide administrative support to the Right to Buy and Leasehold Officers.

In return we offer you an opportunity to be part of a team aiming to achieve excellence along with a benefit package that includes a pension scheme and flexible working.

If you would like to be part of Basildon’s success, we look forward to receiving your application. Please submit a CV and covering letter specifying how you meet the requirements of the person specification.

Closing date: 13 October 2024.

Basildon Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults, and expects all employees, contractors and volunteers to share its commitment to prevent abuse, harm or exploitation. The Council applies a robust recruitment vetting process. If you are successful you will need to undergo a Pre-employment Vetting Procedure.
