Role Overview:

The Interim Accountant will provide hands-on financial support to cover for a 3-month period. This role is focused on day-to-day financial tasks, ensuring accurate financial management and reporting. The position is purely temporary and will not extend into a permanent role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting & Reconciliation:
    • Prepare and complete monthly management accounts.
    • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and ensure accuracy in financial records.
    • Assist in the preparation of statutory accounts and audit files.
  • Day-to-Day Financial Operations:
    • Handle transactional accounting, including processing invoices, payments, and receipts.
    • Manage bank reconciliations and ensure all financial data is accurately recorded in SAGE.
    • Support payroll processing by liaising with external providers and reconciling payroll data.
  • Compliance:
    • Prepare and submit VAT returns and Gift Aid claims.
    • Ensure compliance with charity financial regulations and statutory requirements.
  • Ad Hoc Financial Tasks:
    • Provide additional financial analysis and reporting as required.
    • Assist with the financial management of restricted funds and capital projects.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications:
    • Essential: Qualified Accountant (ACCA or equivalent) or Qualified by extensive experience in a similar accounting role in the charity sector ideally
    • Essential: Proficiency in SAGE or similar accounting software; experience in charity accounting (SORP).
  • Skills & Knowledge:
    • Essential: Strong attention to detail with excellent reconciliation skills.
    • Essential: Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with VAT and Gift Aid processes.
  • Attributes:
    • Essential: Hands-on approach with the ability to work independently.
    • Essential: Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
