Technical Documentation Engineer - Near Lowestoft

Technique Recruitment Solutions are working on behalf of an engineering manufacturer based near Lowestoft who have an immediate permanent vacancy for a Technical Documentation Engineer to compile and present all technical information and documentation related to machine manuals in a format that is presentable to their customers.  Using CAD, Excel, PC skills you will pull files together, add words and construct a technical machine manual for the customer.


Other purposes of the role include supporting the safety documentation within the product life cycle of our equipment and to communicate a technical message to a specific audience at levels the user can fully understand. This involves understanding the technology and writing documentation for presentation. Other media may also be used, for example video, PowerPoint or presentations.

 
Other key Responsibilities include:
 

  • Review and amend existing and create new risk assessments to final completion and compliance.
  • Translate risk assessment actions into working instructions within the manual.
  • Planning and managing the authoring project;
  • Understanding the business systems and applications for which documentation is to be prepared;
  • Gathering and analysing the information needs of the user;
  • Liaising with in house specialists to understand the technology described;
  • Questioning relevant personnel to clarify technical issues;
  • Planning the order of the information, organising and presenting the information effectively;
  • Setting up document standards, styles and formats, which reflect the image of the employing and/or user organisation;
  • Manage CE UKCA documentation published in the manual.
  • Ensure compliance with latest standards.
  • Complete internal EHSR check lists.
  • Verify final project compliance with internal safety documentation.
  • Compile machinery transportation and installation instructions.
  • Publish internal quality documentation and build check lists for machinery.
  • Prepare size change and other machine documentation including safe operation.
  • Manage and distribute associated publications
  • Prepare training documentation.
  • Take visual images of machinery for possible presentation.
  • Writing and presenting the information in clear and simple language;
  • Editing text to fit the standards, style and format agreed;
  • Liaising with translators, printers and service providers;
  • Testing documentation to ensure that it matches the finished product; copying-editing the work or other colleagues within the organisation; publicising services and skills  to potential clients;


Competencies/skills:

Proven technical ability to understand complex machinery .
Good oral and written communication at all levels
Organised
Customer focused (including displaying a positive and helpful attitude)
Ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
Must be able to maintain confidentiality
Computer literate – Microsoft package
CAD experience preferable AutoCAD/Solidworks

 

Background/Experience:

Experience as technical author in capital goods/complex machinery environment or transferable skills/experience/qualifications
